Deer Cake

Deer Cake

I made this cake for a friend for a surprise party for her grandfather. I made a simple yellow WASC cake using a 12 x 18 inch pan. Using buttercream colored with moss and leaf green I used the grass tip (#233). I piped grass around the sides and the top. For the metal rods I used lollipop sticks painted with silver luster dust. The sand pits are crushed graham crackers, light and dark brown sugar, and some edible glitter. I made the horseshoes from gumpaste colored red and blue. The deer are made of a 50/50 gumpaste fondat mixture. I molded them from one ball and then cut out some white for the stomachs. I painted the faces on after they dried. They have toothpicks in the legs so they would stand up on the cake.
