Ballet Slippers Cake 01

I made this cake for my daughters 15th Birthday party. My daughter is taking pointe ballet classes and I thought she would like ballet slippers on a cake that looked like a pillow.

A few days in advance I made some flowers out of pink royal icing.
Also in advance I made pink ballet slippers out of 50/50 fondant
and gumpaste. I made them a week in advance so they would set hard. I used a fondant cutter/embosser tool to do the detail's of the ballet slippers.

For the cake I used a pillow shaped pan. The cake was a white cake with raspberry filling. I crumb coated it in buttercream frosting and then covered it in a marshmallow fondant that was orange on one side and pink on the other side. I used the embosser tool to make the stitches on the pillow. I used buttercream frosting to stick the flowers in the corners of the pillow and to pipe an edge all around the seams of the two colors of fondant.

This cake was fun to make and everyone thought the ballet slippers looked real. Thanks for looking!
